Stainless Steel is one of the most remarkable materials in the construction industry
Stainless Steel is one of the most remarkable materials in the construction industry. It is versatile, lasts indefinitely, is 100% recyclable, does not rust, and is pleasing to the eye.

Stainless Steel, as the name suggests, is an alloy of iron and carbon steel with chromium and other elements. The addition of over 10% chromium makes these alloys less prone to staining: stain-less. The chromium content of the steel allows for the formation of a rough, adherent, invisible, corrosion resisting chromium oxide film on the steel surface. If damaged, mechanically or chemically, this film is self healing, providing that oxygen, even in the smallest amounts, is present.

Stainless Steel falls into 5 major categories:
  • 400 series - Straight chromium. This steel is magnetic and is used primarily on fasteners, pumps and shafts.
  • 200/300 series - Chromium and Nickel mix. Non-magnetic, high strength and is used in food equipment, chemical equipment and architectural applications.
  • Precipitation hardening - Chromium, Nickel, Martensitic or Austenitic used in the petro-chemical equipment field.
  • Duplex - Chromium, Nickel, Molybdenum used almost exclusively on pipelines, pressure vessels and shafting.
